Founder, Vet, Pilot, Field Operator
From rhinos in Africa, to bulls in the Aussie bush—and the occasional dog in a clinic—Dr. Campbell “Cozy” Costello has seen it all. Born and raised on his family’s cattle station in North Queensland, Cozy was schooled over the radio, baptised under a tank, and mustering cattle before most kids learned long division. He became the first in his family to finish school and go to university, graduating as part of the inaugural class of James Cook University’s Vet School in 2010.
A licensed pilot and seasoned field vet, Cozy’s worked across Australia, Africa, the Middle East, South America, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Asia, and beyond—deploying diagnostics, managing livestock, consulting governments, and solving real problems in real time. During the E. Canis outbreak in remote Northern Australia, Cozy saw firsthand how delayed lab results cost time, animals, and outcomes. So he teamed up with top diagnosticians to build something better: rugged, portable PCR platforms that could deliver lab-grade answers, anywhere.
Bush Labs is the result—Cozy’s answer to the global need for fast, reliable, field-ready diagnostics. He knows bush gear needs to be tough, tech needs to work offline, and you can’t afford delays when livelihoods are on the line. Whether it’s Trichomoniasis in Queensland or rabies in Africa, Cozy brings the experience, the team, and the tools to get the job done.
Bush infrastructure can be few and far between
